The 2011 Census of Population, Age Sex counts were released by Statistics Canada this morning.
The large shifts in age distribution highlights the dynamics of BC's changing population.
Several important changes of note are...
1) the number of children under five has increased since 2006; however, it is declining again.
2) the number of those 60 years of age has doubled since 1996.
3) The number of people in their 20s has increased, highlighting the boom side of the economic cycle between 2006 to 2008, and with positive net migration, at least until the numbers of interprovincial migrants became negative in 2011.
4) the large increase in females of reproductive age should result in increases in births over the next several years
5) what do you see?
